Got big goals but don’t know how to reach them? Stuck in a rut with your training? We can help!

We don’t believe that it’s essential to have a coach to get the most out of your running – neither of us have! That said, having a coach can help to provide structure to your training, support you to achieve your running goals and help push beyond your current limits. Our coaching approach at Miles Together has been developed by combining industry best practice with the way we manage our own training, prepare for races and support each other. Don’t expect strict focus on HR zones measures and to-the-second pacing – we go much further than just the numbers! Here’s what you can expect from us:

  • Bespoke training plans that are matched to your current fitness and experience, designed to be flexible and fit with your lifestyle and commitments.
  • Supportive, encouraging and regular feedback to get the most out of your training.
  • Realistic goal setting and planning ahead, whatever it is you want to achieve.
  • Race / event preparation advice, including kit, nutrition, pace planning and mental preparation. We specialise in Backyard Ultras and 100 mile+ point-to-point races.
  • Over 12 years of collective experience of ultra running, you’ll learn from both our failures and successes.

Whichever plan you’re on we’ll prepare a macro training plan over a 3-4 month training cycle, with daily/weekly workouts. We’ll adapt the plan based on your feedback and performance, and if you have any questions you can reach out to us at any time!

One-off consultations

If you don’t need a full training plan but just have a specific issue to discuss, we offer 1 hour video call consultations, including follow-up by Whatsapp or email. Here are some of the things we can help with:

  • Goal setting – we can help define a realistic pathway for you to achieve your running goals!
  • Race preparation – we’ll work with you to develop a detailed race plan covering pacing, nutrition/hydration, mental preparation, kit and logistics.
  • Training review – stuck in a rut and need some feedback on how to get more out of your training? We can advise what to change to get the results you are looking for.

We’re happy to help with any aspect of your running journey – just ask us! A one hour session costs just £50.

Coaches

Dr. Iain Bethune is a certified UESCA Ultrarunning Coach and holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Edinburgh. He has been running ultras for 8 years and has completed over 25 ultra races including point-to-point, timed events and Backyard Ultras. He has competed for Team Scotland and Team UK in Backyard Ultras and currently holds the Scottish record of 51 yards. Before taking up running in his 30s he previously competed in kayak slalom, paddled some of Scotland’s hardest whitewater rivers and was a BCU qualified kayaking coach. He is happiest out in the Scottish mountains and has climbed and run over 100 Munros. When he’s not racing, training or spending time with family, Iain can often be found volunteering at races!
